NWC: close the demo and go back to Newcastle Web Co

Demo by Newcastle Web Co. This is a demo design and not a real business. Every design is one of one: when a business picks it, no one else gets it.

Landscaping projects across Newcastle and Lake Macquarie

Six gardens and the problem each owner was living with before we started: a sunken path, a bank that washed away, a yard that flooded every storm.

The projects

  1. A curved brick path between blue-grey grasses and a clipped hedge

Hamilton · 4 days on site · finished

A Federation front yard, given back its path

    Before
The original brick path had sunk under the lawn, and the front yard read as a strip of grass with a letterbox.
    What we built
A curved brick path to the door, clipped hedging along one side and soft grasses along the other.
  2. Timber sleeper steps climbing a steep, densely planted bank

Cameron Park · 2 weeks on site · finished

A steep bank, turned into a walk through the trees

    Before
A bank too steep to mow, washing soil onto the driveway every time it rained hard.
    What we built
Hardwood sleeper steps up a steep slope, planted thickly on both sides so the bank holds in a storm.
  3. A white pergola frame over a built-in seat, with a wall of tall leaves behind and stepping pavers across the lawn

Warners Bay · 3 weeks on site · finished

An outdoor room at the end of the lawn

    Before
A long lawn with nowhere to sit, and nothing at the far end to draw anyone down to it.
    What we built
A rendered pergola frame over a built-in seat, with stepping pavers set into the lawn to reach it.
  4. A rendered garden beside a concrete house: paving with lawn strips, low hedges and bollard lights

Wallsend · 2 and a half weeks on site · finished

A backyard that stopped flooding every storm

    Before
Water ran across the yard to the back door in every storm, and the lawn stayed a bog for days.
    What we built
Concrete paving with lawn strips set into it, the whole yard regraded so storm water runs to a drain.
  5. A long paved courtyard with low planting either side, leading to a glass-fronted house

Georgetown · 8 days on site · finished

A courtyard garden for a house with no backyard

    Before
A narrow side courtyard of cracked concrete, the only outdoor space the house had.
    What we built
Large-format pavers down the length of the courtyard, with low planted beds along both sides.
  6. Grasses, silver-leaved shrubs and rocks around a gravel path

Belmont · 1 week on site · finished

A coastal native garden that copes with salt wind

    Before
Two attempts at a lawn and a cottage garden, both burnt off by salt wind within a summer.
    What we built
Banksia, westringia and lomandra in a mulched bed, with a crushed-sandstone path to the side gate.

Projects: your questions

Are these real projects?

No. This is a demo website for a fictional landscaper, so these are sample projects written to show how a real one would be presented. On a real site, each would be the business's own job, with its own photos and the owner's permission.

Can I see a garden you've built in person?

Sometimes. A few owners are happy for someone planning a similar job to see their garden, and we ask them first, every time. We never give out an address without the owner's yes, so if you'd like to see one, tell us what kind of job you're planning and we'll ask an owner nearby.

Can you build something like one of these at my place?

Usually, yes, but it won't be the same garden, because your block won't be the same block. Show us the one you like at the site visit and we'll draw a version that suits your slope, your soil and how you use the yard.

Do you take photos of the gardens you build?

With your permission, yes, once the planting has had a season to settle in. We never show a house number, a street sign or anything that identifies where you live.

What does a project like these cost?

Most whole backyards land between $15,000 and $60,000 + GST, and a front garden between $8,000 and $30,000 + GST. The services page has a price guide for each part of the job, and your own quote is fixed before anything starts.

What if I only want part of a project done now?

That's common. We draw the whole garden, then build it in stages that make sense: usually the walls and drainage first, and the paving, lawn and planting when you're ready. Each stage gets its own fixed price.

Have a yard like one of these?

Send us a few photos and what's bothering you about it. We'll ring to book a free site visit, then send a fixed quote with a drawing.
